VALIDATION

I've got something in my pocket for youuuu....

The Hornless Rhino from the blog Vinny and the Hornless Rhino has this excellent take on why I gave my blog this name. It's a beautiful thing when wild speculation and blind loathing lead to validation.

I'm going to jump ship from the "Fair-Weather Fans" blogspot of a few days ago -- dwayne's just too d**n happy in there lately -- and just add one note here.

This is one Steelers fan who finds the need for a mascot as both illogical and an UTTER ABOMINATION. You'd think we'd have learned our lesson when we introduced the Steelerette Cheerleaders in the late 60s for (mercifully) one year. However, the woman who won the contest apparently got an anniversary throwback jersey and premium seats for the Bills game. Heck, had I known that, I would've thought up something as equally dorky. There is apparently a meaning to all the names: Steely for (duh) the Steelers, "Mc" for the Rooneys (Irish legacy) and the Beam for the steel industry in the glory days.

But we need a mascot like, oh, I dunno, overweight grown men need to wear dog masks and bark in 30* weather. Something kinda "eeeewww" about both, don'cha think?

The dog mask wasn't chosen out of a field of 70,000 entries, though. You gotta think, what were some of the ones that got rejected?a

by the way, I posted reply on that other post that will hopefully end this war that has escalated to Biggie/Pac proportions.

Faz here.
"Peace in our time" on the other thread...as for this piece, I dunno: surely there had to be something better than "Steely McBeam" in a field of 70,000 entries. I guess we coudn't use Steely Dan for copyright purposes...

I'll wager, however, that the anti-mascot vote tally on the Post-Gazette's Steeler page is revolving around the dial at astronomical speeds -- probably as fast as the spinning now occurring in Art Rooney's grave. Mascot...pah.

You can castigate your team and the Browns' GM /management, but even THEY wouldn't pull this booshwah, I'll wager.

I am getting too much enjoyment from seeing that guy. It seriously sounds like a name from a Simpson's episode.
